About
Hidden behind a suburban street in Pacifica, a two-acre site contains a modest ranch house and the remains of a horse stable. When the owners relocated from San Francisco during the pandemic, they saw the property as an opportunity to reshape daily life around terrain, wandering, and outdoor gathering.
Rather than focusing on a single building, the design unfolds across the entire site. Paths, gardens, and terraces organize the property into a sequence of outdoor rooms that frame views of the surrounding hills.

At the center of the project is the conversion of the former stable into a two-bedroom accessory dwelling unit. The architecture maintains the proportions of the original stalls while introducing natural materials and shifting light conditions—advancing an “outdoor–indoor” approach that keeps interior life closely tied to the landscape.
