Eagle Rock Garden

We teamed up with Bay Area-based landscape architect Dune Hai to create a resourceful and color-driven garden as an extension of this LA couple’s first home. The result is an outdoor living room concept that came to life as if it always existed within the tranquil hills of Eagle Rock.

Inspired by the forms of the Burle Max rooftops in Brazil, we carved curves into linear cedar elements to allow earth and plantings to take up more space. Now, living greens — from Fan Palms to Monkey Flower to Silver Feather Grass, thrive between the outdoor “rooms” for living, dining, warming, and (eventually) soaking.

The front cinder block wall was removed to extend the garden's boundary, and a newly installed cedar fence creates an inviting sidewalk garden for neighbors and passersby, while adding an element of surprise and adventure across the threshold. Abundant side doors allow exterior spaces to converse with the home’s interior - an outdoor cocktail area opens off the dining room, an outdoor dining room off the kitchen, and an outdoor fire pit off the home office. Lastly, a comfortable private lounge opens off of the primary bedroom and features a custom patterned concrete tile from Concrete Collaborative.

Color is infused through bold SHORE furnishings, a vibrant mural and terrazzo pavers with pops of pink - each hue plays a critical narrative in the garden.
